Job Search Tips
I have commented the following in response to someone's post somewhere. Thought why not share with other group members. These are the ones I myself follow. If you have some others, plz share.
In this economic age and time, getting the right job without much delay is really a matter of great luck. But there are certain things we can do to increase our prospects of being on job again ASAP. For example one should
- increase the intensity of searching by extending your professional network and let people in your network know that you are jobless and available.
- Join many job groups here on Linkedin and post your resume/cover letter/profile in the discussion tab
- introduce yourself to other members especially recruiting consultants and add them to your network. In most cases you will find them more than willling to join you.
- apply to the relevant jobs privately through the given email address and leave your comment publicly that you have applied. People like to have more and more responses to their postings in public. This way you will not only get noticed by many other people and prospective employers but also increase the chances of a fair treatment of your resume.
- ask your former colleagues to recommend you here on Linkedin. Recommendations especially by your former colleagues at work really helps you and boost your confidence and professional standing.
- send inMail invitation or introduce yourself through an existing connection to the hiring authorities at different companies in your region and request them to join your network. Once connect, you can correspond with them directly.
- Alternatively, when u join a group, u become eligible to send a direct message to all other memebers of the group (this is true as far as my experience with some groups. Plz check if this happens to be true for all groups). So, search the groups you are member of for any hiring authority in your region as the member and if found, correspond with them directly.
Now some off linkedin things to do:
- redesign and update your resume in a manner that it effectively but honestly showcase your key achivements, honors and awards, trainings and workshops.
- make your colleagues' recommendations to you on linkedin part of your resume or cover letter.
- NOT forget to accompany your resume with a nicely written but succinct cover letter. It's a great utility to make your job application stand out from the crowd.
- resend your latest resume along with a a cover letter to every job you applied in the past. The record should be there in your mailbox.
- ask your former colleagues for the name and address of hiring authority at their company and send them directly a personalized mail with your CV+Cover Letter.
- visit companys' websites and post an unsolicited job application, if unable to find out the name and address of relevant authorities.
- create your profile on many authenticated job sites on internet and apply through them.
- and of course keep searching the newspapers as well
