THE PHONE INTERVIEW

1. During the phone interview, avoid long pauses.

2. Avoid any interruptions. Turn off call-waiting. Shut the door. Tell family members in advance not to interrupt.

3. Do not ramble. Avoid long-winded, interminable answers.

4. Do not eat, drink, or chew gum while on the phone.

5. Take notes as you listen to the interviewer.

6. Remember the name of the interviewer and use it during the interview.

7. Show that you have done your homework by referencing a couple of facts about the company you are interviewing with.

8. Make sure that your phone answering service does not have any silly songs or weird voicemail message. Keep your personality quirks out during your job search.

9. If you sneeze or cough, be sure to excuse yourself.

10. Dress up for the interview if possible! It will make you more focused and into the moment.
