i. Context / Environment:

The role is critical due to the heavy and active litigation environment in which the company operates compounded by the fact regulatory bodies are becoming more active and the legal system is slow, uncertain and unpredictable. As the regulatory authorities become more active, more ambiguous laws are being enacted leading to a continuous need to review the laws to ascertain implications. Other dimension of the litigation involves handling general litigation of the Company this includes Taxation matters, civil matters including tenancy issues, termination of distribution and disputes relating to marketing promotional schemes etc, Constitutional challenges to discriminatory laws affecting the business, Criminal cases pertaining to theft, fraud, infringement of copy rights etc, Labour law disputes, product liability cases, Trade Mark and Copy Right disputes.
Litigation can arise in any part of the country where the business of the Company is taking place. The role requires keeping close contact with external lawyers in finalizing strategy, pleadings and arguments of each case on one hand and simultaneously co-ordinating, planning and updating the concerned function on the other.

In the role of business partner, the job requires close co-ordination with respective business partner in drafting agreements, opinions, reports, designin-house training etc.
